This offensive coordinator search has not gone as well as Philadelphia Eagles fans hoped.
The Eagles had Mike McDaniel and Brian Daboll at the top of their list for offensive coordinator. McDaniel decided to pick the Los Angeles Chargers as his preferred destination as offensive coordinator, with head coaching jobs still up for grabs. Daboll is similar to him, most likely going with the Tennessee Titans for offensive coordinator, but still in line to potentially land the Buffalo Bills head coaching job.
Philly is now in a tough situation where the top two candidates are out of the picture, and the Eagles are scrapping at the bottom of the barrel for coaches. Some thought the effort was not made to get McDaniel, but that's not the case. It's much worse than that.
Mike McDaniel and Brian Daboll both say no to the Eagles
The Philadelphia Inquirer's Jeff McLane shared more behind the offensive coordinator search and what is going on behind the scenes with McDaniel and Daboll. With collaboration from PHLY's E.J. Smith, there is now a story behind what the Eagles did with McDaniel.
"The Eagles met with McDaniel virtually, as @EJSmith94 (E.J. Smith) said, per league sources. It wasn’t a formal interview, but it was an in-depth conversation.
McDaniel and Daboll would have been given autonomy over the offense, sources said. There are a few remaining candidates that would have leverage to get authority, but that doesn’t mean Nick Sirianni won’t hand over the offense, depending upon the coach.
The Eagles have cast a large net, one seemingly larger with McDaniel and Daboll unlikely, and thus the process will continue."
This is an interesting piece of information, as no one ever reported that McDaniel actually interviewed for the job. It appears as though the thought of having full autonomy of the offense was not enough for McDaniel to take the job.
There are now bigger questions from the Eagles fan base as to what is causing these top candidates to pass on a team that has been to the Super Bowl twice in the last four years, winning one. Is it an issue with Sirianni, Jalen Hurts, A.J. Brown, or all of the above?

It'll be interesting to see who is next on the pecking order for the Eagles to go after to be their next offensive coordinator, but it is not looking promising at this point.
