Well, now Philadelphia Eagles know what happened with new edge rusher Joe Tryon-Shoyinka after being in the dark for awhile.
Last week, Tryon-Shoyinka was the only player on the Eagles who was not at mandatory minicamp with the team, leaving some to question what happen. The Eagles announced that he has been placed on the retired listed and defensive back Brandon Johnson has been waived. They also announced the signings of their two UFL players, cornerback Shaun Wade and wide receiver Erik Ezukanma.
Tryon-Shoyinka was a former first-round pick of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers who never had more than five sacks in a season. He spent last year with the Cleveland Browns and the Chicago Bears.
Joe Tryon-Shoyinka appears to have retired from the NFL
This explains why he was gone and the Eagles decided to sign A.J. Epenesa last week. The Eagles are now solid on depth with the edge rushers, but will miss the prospect of having Tryon-Shoyinka on the roster.
Philly was able to at least make the signings of Wade and Ezukanma as the two should be able to help the roster out. Wade gives the cornerbacks depth and might be able to help on special teams. Ezukanma also can be a returner on special teams and give the offense another option on the outside with A.J. Brown being traded.
It's too bad fans never got a chance to see if Tryon-Shoyinka could turn his career around and make an impact on the Eagles. This franchise is too familiar with edge rusher retiring on them as Za'Darius Smith did it to them five games into his tenure with the team last year.
