The Philadelphia Eagles fan base was hopeful that they would be able to get Myles Garrett until ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter went on Philly sports radio to say that won't happen.

Well, that's because Schefter must have known Garrett was going somewhere else. He, Ian Rapoport, and Tom Pelissero reported a blockbuster trade that will send Garrett to the Los Angeles Rams as part of a trade with the Cleveland Browns, which will send draft picks, including at least one first-rounder, and edge rusher Jared Verse.

Garrett is coming off his second Defensive Player of the Year award since 2023 last year, as he broke the NFL record for sacks in a season with 23. Last season, it was reported that Eagles general manager Howie Roseman had called the Browns and offered multiple first-round picks to try to acquire Garrett, but Cleveland was not interested.

Eagles went from potentially trading for Myles Garrett to now facing him in 2026

It seemed like the Eagles weren't really in the conversation for Garrett, despite their names being attached to rumors, but it stings in multiple ways. Philly loses out on an elite pass rusher while now facing the reality that Garrett will be on the other side of them in Week 4 of the 2026 NFL season.

The Eagles have been very lucky not to have faced Garrett often in his career, as they have faced off just once. Garrett only had four tackles in that game back in 2024.

This will put more pressure on the Eagles' offensive line to step up, as either Lane Johnson or Jordan Mailata will be facing off against Garrett. Johnson and Mailata are more than capable of the challenge, but Garrett is just a different beast from what they are used to.

Philly has time to prepare for that game, but it seems as though the Rams not only will make the Eagles' life tough in Week 4, but also for the NFC crown.
