At one point, the Philadelphia Eagles fan base thought maybe they could be in the running for one of the top free agents in the offseason, but before it can even start, that's no longer the case.
The Atlanta Falcons are going to use the franchise tag on tight end Kyle Pitts and avoid free agency. Pitts and the Falcons are hoping to secure a long-term contract before the season begins.
Last season, Pitts had the second-best year of his career with 928 yards and a career-high five touchdowns. Pitts grew up in Pennsylvania, which was part of the reason many were starting to connect him with the Eagles as a possibility this offseason.
Eagles lose out on chance to sign Kyle Pitts
With Pitts out of the picture, it starts to limit the options for the Eagles at tight end. They are losing Dallas Goedert, Grant Calcaterra, and Kylen Granson to free agency and only have Cameron Latu on the roster at tight end for next season.
Bringing Goedert back is always an option, but with him being 31 and having missed 17 games in the last four seasons, many consider that he won't be back on the team. Plus, he might command too much money to justify re-signing him.
Another name in free agency who has been attached as a possibility for the Eagles is David Njoku. With his production having gone down this past season with the Cleveland Browns, Njoku might be another tight end for the Eagles to pass on.
The most popular scenario is the Eagles looking at the NFL Draft, as many mock drafts have them selecting Oregon tight end Kenyon Sadiq with the 23rd overall pick. Quick and athletic, Sadiq has all the capabilities to be a starter in the NFL.

Philly will not have as many options at tight end, so fans will have to wait and see how they attack the offseason.
