The Philadelphia Eagles' coaching staff is trying to take shape for the 2026 season, leaving the final moves to be made.
CBS Sports reporter Matt Zenitz shared that the Eagles are promoting Montgomery VanGorder to be the assistant quarterbacks coach in 2026. VanGorder was with the team last year as a quality control coach.
This is now the second coach within the Eagles' staff to get moved within to work closely with Jalen Hurts. Parks Frazier also moved from pass game coordinator to quarterbacks coach.
Eagles promote Montgomery VanGorder to assistant quarterbacks coach
VanGorder is no stranger to quarterbacks, having served as the Bulldogs' quarterbacks coach before joining the Eagles. This also keeps him within the Eagles' build, continuing to give Hurts familiar faces to work with.
The offensive coaching staff has undergone many changes since the hiring of Sean Mannion as offensive coordinator. Frazier and VanGorder are among the very few coaches retained on the staff last year when Kevin Patullo was the offensive coordinator.
Philly is going to bring in a whole new offensive system, different from what they have been running in the past. Based on Mannion's background as a player and coach, he's expected to follow in the footsteps of guys like Sean McVay and Matt LaFleur, with more motions, creative pass plays, and an innovative approach to the offense.
Among all the assistant coaches on the team, Frazier and VanGorder are going to receive the most attention, as they are being tasked with working closely with Hurts and getting him ready for the scheme. While Hurts was very good at protecting the football with just six interceptions last year, he was criticized for not pushing the ball down the field more often on his passes.

Expect all that to change in 2026 with Frazier and VanGorder directly responsible for making that happen.
