Eagles surprise fans with internal hire to become Jalen Hurts' new QB coach

That came out of nowhere.

There have been a ton of changes to the Philadelphia Eagles' offensive coaching staff, with another on the way, but it isn't from an outside hire.

CBS Sports reporter Matt Zenitz shared that the Eagles are expected to name Parks Frazier the new quarterbacks coach. Scot Loeffler had been the QBs coach last season, but it was never reported whether he was fired or left the team.

Frazier has been an up-and-coming coach, serving as the passing game coordinator after taking over for Kevin Patullo, who was promoted to offensive coordinator last season. Before Philly, Frazier was best known as the interim offensive coordinator for the Indianapolis Colts in 2022.

Eagles have new coach for Jalen Hurts

Of the coaches they could have hired, this is the safest move that new Eagles offensive coordinator Sean Mannion could have made. It was a bit of a surprise, though, as many thought former Las Vegas Raiders offensive coordinator Greg Olson would be at the top of the list given his past working relationship with Mannion.

This is a solid move for the Eagles for two reasons. One, Frazier was a quarterback in the past and has been a quarterbacks coach multiple times in his career, and two, Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts will have at least one familiar face on the coaching staff.

There are going to be a lot of changes to the scheme the Eagles will be running in Philly, so having a familiar face who has been in multiple systems, like Frazier, would be beneficial for Hurts. This way, it doesn't become an overload of information for Hurts to handle, even though he has had a different play caller 10 times in the last 10 years.

Frazier's promotion is one of the last key pieces of the coaching staff to be finalized before the 2026 season, after which the focus turns to the roster.
