People love to rag on Philadelphia Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni, as sometimes it is justified and sometimes it isn't.
Sirianni has taken a ton of heat for his decisions on who to hire at offensive coordinator, with two of them being fired after one season over the last three years. One other thing he is criticized for is his in-game decision making and how he can be too aggressive at times.
Pro Football Focus writer Bradley Locker dove into the numbers of the best and worst teams on fourth down. Funny enough, the one thing that Sirianni gets criticized for during games might actually be his strongest asset, as the Eagles have the third-highest fourth-down conversion rate since 2021. They have converted on fourth down 63% of the time.
"The Rams, Eagles and Bills also rank in the league’s elite tier of organizations since 2021, and their ability to maintain possessions is presumably a factor. More specifically, Philadelphia guide Nick Sirianni has blended pushing the right buttons with a wildly successful — and hotly debated — play on fourth down."
Maybe Nick Sirianni shouldn't take as much heat on in-game decisions
For a coach on the hot seat, that conversion rate is not too bad for Sirianni. He generally seems to have a good sense of when to do it, but unfortunately, when he misses, it really hurts the team.
To the team's credit, when Sirianni goes for it, it is usually fourth-and-one or inches. That is usually the time when the Eagles call the Tush Push to get that extra yard and convert.
Over the past year, that play has not worked as well for the Eagles. That has resulted in the team becoming more creative with the Tush Push formation, as they will either call for a toss play to Saquon Barkley or a quick tight end screen to Dallas Goedert, both of which have yielded good results.
Still, Sirianni is unapologetically aggressive in every game and will remain so. Eagles fans don't mind that mentality, as it has helped this team win two Super Bowls, as former head coach Doug Pederson was the same way in Philly.

Sirianni always seems to take the brunt of the hits for things he does on the team, but every decision he makes is in the team's best interest, most of them working out. He really should be getting more credit than he gets.
