The Philadelphia Eagles can go a variety of routes with the No. 23 overall selection in the 2026 NFL Draft. Heck, they may even move up or down the board, as the club's general manager, Howie Roseman, has shown a willingness to do.

Regardless of where Philadelphia winds up picking in the first round, its need for offensive line depth, specifically on the outside, is apparent. They've prioritized other areas of the roster in free agency thus far this offseason. Nevertheless, the unit that's been the foundation of the Eagles' identity for the past decade-plus must be reinforced, both in the short term and in the long haul.

Philadelphia ought to begin making arrangements for life after Lane Johnson. The franchise's longtime right tackle and future Hall of Famer announced his return for a 14th campaign, though he's seemingly taking things year by year. His battle with Father Time is nearing the end, and the Eagles have a chance to get ahead of it.

Whether it be Clemson's Blake Miller, Max Iheanachor of Arizona State, or someone else, Philly figures to have multiple intriguing prospects to choose from. The two names mentioned profile more as projects with considerable upside if they land in the right situation. With that in mind, what better landing spot than the Eagles?

Johnson has openly stated that mentoring his eventual replacement would be an "exceptional experience." He expressed excitement about helping develop the next generation, knowing that it helped him blossom into an all-time great. So, the Eagles don't have to worry about stepping on anyone's toes.

Thanks to Johnson, any young blocker the Eagles bring in would have a wealth of knowledge at their disposal. He's seen virtually everything throughout his illustrious career in the league. Someone stands to benefit from his vast experience, whether it be Miller, Iheanachor, or another player.

2025 sixth-rounders Cameron Williams and Myles Hinton barely played as rookies. The latter didn't see the field at all after spending much of the season on injured reserve. Yet the Eagles have not yet brought in an edge protector via the open market.

Not to mention, three-time Pro Bowl guard Landon Dickerson also seriously considered retirement before agreeing to a reworked contract with the Eagles. Albeit an interior lineman, his presence (or lack thereof) puts additional pressure on the team's tackles to hold up their end of the bargain.
