Eagles' playoff dreams might turn into a nightmare if these positions aren't fixed

This has been a quieter offseason for the Philadelphia Eagles as they try to figure out how to spend less money in free agency and find the right talent in the 2026 NFL Draft.

That mindset has resulted in the Eagles losing some key contributors from last year, with edge rusher Jaelan Phillips, safety Reed Blankenship, and linebacker Nakobe Dean out of Philly. Replacements have already been found within the roster, with Jihaad Campbell for Dean and Marcus Epps for Blankenship.

There is more work to be done if the Eagles want to be in a position similar to last year to make the playoffs. Which positions are they going to have to focus on if they want a chance to inch back closer to the Super Bowl in 2026?

Edge Rusher

Phillips's move to the Carolina Panthers was an absolute gut punch to the Eagles after early signs showed they might be able to get a deal done with him. They have instead signed Arnold Ebiketie and Joe Tryon-Shoyinka in free agency to rotate in with Jalyx Hunt and Nolan Smith Jr., but that won't cut it for the Eagles in 2026. Expect either a trade for Jonathan Greenard or Maxx Crosby to be on the table or at least drafting an edge rusher in the NFL Draft to help with it, but something has to be done.

Safety

Epps did well replacing Andrew Mukuba last year, but that was not enough to help the Eagles make any kind of postseason run. The Eagles need a difference-maker back there who can do what Blankenship did as a leader and playmaker. Watch for Philly to draft a young guy to develop for one year behind Epps, but if that doesn't work, they might need to trade for one.

Wide Receiver

Who knows what's going to happen with A.J. Brown at this point with the trade rumors, but a young WR3 is needed badly on the team despite Marquise "Hollywood" Brown and Elijah Moore being added. The draft will help with that as they figure out in June whether A.J. Brown gets traded or stays another season.

Offensive Tackle

Lane Johnson's near retirement scared everyone, so a young guy in the draft is going to be selected at some point. The depth is rough on the offensive line with Brett Toth and Matt Pryor off the team, so the Eagles need more and younger there.
