Eagles' potential reunion is viciously knocking on their door after latest rumor

Could he be back in 2026?

One of the Philadelphia Eagles' biggest problems during the 2025 season was on the offensive line, something that hasn't been a problem for the team in a long time.

Most of the problems stemmed from injuries on the line, with Landon Dickerson and Cam Jurgens playing through the pain throughout the season. Starting right tackle Lane Johnson missed the last eight games of the season with a foot injury, and backup lineman Brett Toth missed the playoff loss to the San Francisco 49ers with a concussion.

That led to some inconsistent play on the line, but there might be a solution entering free agency. Essentially Sports' Tony Pauline reported that the Los Angeles Chargers are expected to cut former Eagles right guard Mekhi Becton.

"After seemingly turning his career around, word at the Shrine Bowl is that Mekhi Becton has reverted to his former ways, and the Los Angeles Chargers will opt out of the final year of his contract.

Becton’s run and pass blocking were both a disaster, and he was ranked as one of the worst guards in the league. The Chargers can opt out of the second year of his deal, and people at the Shrine Bowl tell me that’s exactly what will happen."

Mekhi Becton might be an option for Eagles in 2026

To say it was a horrible year for Becton might actually be an understatement. He struggled in his first season with the Chargers, starting 14 of 15 games at right guard and earning a Pro Football Focus grade of 35.3 overall, ranking 79th among 81 offensive guards in the NFL.

There have been problems throughout the season between Becton and the Chargers that have shown signs of a deteriorating relationship between the two sides. A release seems to make the most sense for the team.

Now the big question is whether it is worth it for the Eagles to bring him back after his career resurgence in 2024 with Philly, when he helped win a Super Bowl after moving from left tackle to right guard that year. This past season, Tyler Steen took over at right guard for Becton after his departure.

While it wasn't a strong start to the year, Steen played well late in the year and earned a lot of respect from his teammates. Steen finished with a PFF overall grade of 71.6, ranking 17th out of 81 guards in the league. He also ranked 11th in pass-blocking grade (74) and 17th in run-blocking grade (71.8).

It wouldn't be the worst idea for the Eagles to consider bringing back Becton. Steen played well enough that he should get another season at guard. If Becton comes back at a cheaper option, then Eagles general manager Howie Roseman would be crazy not to at least think about it.
