The highlight of the Philadelphia Eagles' offseason so far in free agency has been the signing of cornerback Riq Woolen.
Philly locked him into a one-year, $12 million deal, where he is expected to be the CB2 alongside Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean. Pro Football Focus writer Mason Cameron was a big fan of the Woolen signing and named him as one of the best value signings in NFL free agency.
"Not long ago, the Eagles were Super Bowl champions, largely because of their coverage prowess. After earning the NFL’s highest PFF team coverage grade (93.8) during the 2024 campaign, the unit regressed in 2025. Although Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean captured All-Pro honors, a secondary is only as strong as its weakest link, and for the Eagles, that link was the outside CB2 spot. Opposing offenses frequently targeted Adoree' Jackson with much success, leaving the defense in tough spots.
Try that against Tariq Woolen, and you'll likely find yourself in third-and-long. The former Seahawks cornerback profiles as the perfect fit for Vic Fangio’s defense, and does so at a cost-effective price. Woolen's one-year, $12 million contract places him just outside of the top 25 players at the position in total cash earned in 2026, and general manager Howie Roseman’s favorite flavor of contract structure — using void years to stretch the cost — leaves the cap hit at just $3.4 million (73rd highest among active cornerbacks)."
Eagles get a great deal from Riq Woolen's signing
Woolen's contract is a Roseman special as he saves the franchise a bunch on cap space while still paying him good money to be on the roster. The Eagles win on both a financial and on-field basis.
Last year with the Seahawks, Woolen made 41 tackles, one tackle for loss, one quarterback hit, 12 pass deflections, and one interception. He played a key role in Seattle's playoff run, helping the team capture a Super Bowl title with a win over the New England Patriots.
Philly's cornerbacks will be in a much better spot than last year, when the Eagles had to suffer with Adoree' Jackson and Kelee Ringo as the starters. Woolen gives him stability for the season and reliable coverage on the corner.

The 2026 season is starting to look a lot better for the Eagles as the defense is set up for success thanks to Woolen's arrival in the secondary.
