Eagles reportedly met with playmaker who would put Will Shipley on notice

He better watch his back.

The running back room is quite crowded for the Philadelphia Eagles, but one more addition could really flip the room on its head.

Philly currently has Saquon Barkley as the top guy, with others like Tank Bigsby, Will Shipley, and Dameon Pierce all competing for roster spots and playing time. There is a draft prospect who might threaten Shipley a little more than the others do.

Eagles reporter Anthony DiBona reported that the team met with Oregon running back Noah Whittington at the NFL Combine. Last year, Whittington ran for 829 yards and six touchdowns, as he averaged 6.4 yards per carry.

Noah Whittington met with Eagles at NFL Combine, which is not good for Will Shipley

There is legitimate interest in Whittington as he can make an impact on offense and special teams. The Eagles could use him as a third-down back when it is a passing down, and can also line up as a returner on special teams with his 4.41-second 40-yard speed.

Pierce has the longest shot at making the team, and if he does, there is a strong chance that he ends up being inactive for games. Bigsby should be a near lock to be the RB2 behind Barkley.

That leaves Shipley's spot as interesting on the roster. His offensive snaps declined last year with Bigsby playing, but Shipley is still a lot on special teams, keeping him active in games.

Philly was hoping that Shipley would take bigger strides as a backup running back, but that just hasn't happened yet for him. Whittington would push Shipley to play better and get to where they need to be.

If the Eagles decide to take a Day 3 pick on Whittington, Shipley better watch his back, as he will truly have to battle to make the roster through special teams.
