Even though wide receiver A.J. Brown gets all the attention regarding trade rumors for the Philadelphia Eagles, there is another player that fans should be keeping an eye on.
Dating back to last offseason, Eagles backup quarterback Tanner McKee has gotten a lot of attention as potential competition to start elsewhere in a trade, but a deal has not been done yet. ESPN Eagles reporter Tim McManus shared how that will be the case this offseason as well.
"Eagles backup QB Tanner McKee drew trade interest around the draft last year and that will likely be the case again later this month. The 6-foot-6 McKee was a sixth-round pick by Philadelphia in 2023 and has generally impressed in spot duty for the Eagles, throwing five touchdowns to one interception. The front office has some incentive to explore a trade given that McKee is entering the last year of his rookie deal, and they added insurance by acquiring Andy Dalton in March."
Tanner McKee could still get attention for a trade from the Eagles before the draft
McKee has been solid as Jalen Hurts' backup the last two years. During his three-year NFL career, McKee has completed 61.4% of his passes for 597 yards and five touchdowns, with one interception.
Teams like the New York Jets were initially interested in him and had reportedly had conversations with the Eagles. Part of the problem is that Eagles general manager Howie Roseman was asking for too high a price for McKee, as Philly was looking for a Day 2 pick that the Jets were not on board with.
McManus added what Roseman said that the NFL owners meeting about McKee's future with the Eagles.
"From our perspective, having a guy like Tanner is incredible security for us," Roseman said at the annual league meeting in Arizona. "The way I think about these three quarterbacks, when I go to bed at night and I know we have three quarterbacks who can play, I sleep better. That's just how I roll."
The possibility of a McKee trade seems more likely this offseason because of the speculation that the Eagles could draft a quarterback high to compete with Hurts in the future, after the report McManus shared just last week. Dalton's arrival also makes it easier to make a trade, as they have stability in the quarterback room.

Eagles fans will feel split about whether they should trade McKee away, but if Roseman can get a second-round pick for him, it might be hard to say no to that.
