Philadelphia Eagles fans are still feeling the sting of losing out on Mike McDaniel, who will take the Los Angeles Chargers' offensive coordinator job, but not all hope is lost, as another top candidate is still available to them.

The Philadelphia Inquirer's Jeff McLane shared an update on how it went for former New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll during his interview for the Eagles' offensive coordinator opening. McLane added another layer to the search that could affect whether Philly gets Daboll.

"Eagles interviewed Brian Daboll today for their OC vacancy, NFL sources said. Daboll is clearly a top target for team brass. There is also internal support to bring in someone who would make significant changes to the offense.

Daboll has interviewed for HC jobs and at the least will have OC opportunities. There is some belief in league circles that he could be new Titans HC Robert Saleh’s OC choice. Daboll would have autonomy in Tennessee working under a defensive-minded coach.

Nick Sirianni technically is leading the search, but owner Jeffrey Lurie will have obvious sway and has stated and shown before that he will get involved on key coaching hires."

Eagles have some competition with Nick Sirianni leading the OC search

The part of Sirianni leading the search will have all fans hung up on that fact, as many are concerned about his judgment, given his failed decisions on Brian Johnson and Kevin Patullo. Remember that Sirianni is also responsible for bringing in Shane Steichen and Kellen Moore, both of whom became first-time head coaches, so let's not rush to judgment.

One interesting note from McLane is that Daboll would have full control of the Titans' offense. The hope would be that Sirianni and company are also offering that to Daboll, as he has proven, through his work with Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills, that he can handle it.

That's another aspect of the search that McLane did not mention, but must be kept in the back of Eagles fans' minds. The Bills have a head-coaching opening, and Daboll is a candidate being mentioned for it, so that's more competition for the Eagles.

Philly knows that the search all comes down to Daboll taking the job and must do everything they can to get him. Losing out on him could mean big trouble for the Eagles entering the 2026 season.
