The Philadelphia Eagles offense is clearly going through a transitional period with Sean Mannion as the new play caller, and it is starting to show at OTAs.
Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts had a rough go at it last week when he threw an interception on the first play of the 7-on-7 drill, and other moments came up where he also turned the ball over again. 94 WIP Eagles reporter Eliot Shorr-Parks was back with his stats and grade on Hurts, as this week was somewhat better with the stats, as he completed 14 of 19, but the grade was worse as Hurts got a D.
"Hurts worst throw of the day was also to Smith but it came early in practice," Shorr-Parks said on X. "Smith was open down the middle of the field but Hurts put it just too far in front of his outstretched arms. Smith wasn’t wide open but Hurts not giving Smith a real chance to make the play on the ball makes it a throw the QB will likely want back.
At this point in the offseason you would expect the defense to be ahead of the offense considering how much longer one unit has been running their scheme as opposed to the new one the offense is running. Still, it has been a rough few practices for Hurts and the offense."
Jalen Hurts and the Eagles offense had a tough day at OTAs
Shorr-Parks highlighted that Hurts's best pass was to tight end E.J. Jenkins, as he moved around to find him open and delivered a good ball. Besides that, it seems like the defense had the offense's number.
This is now the second straight week Hurts did not get the best report on himself and the offense. Again, it's too early to panic, but some progression is needed, and it feels as though it is more regression at this point of OTAs.
It might be better for Hurts and the offense to work out the kinks now, before training camp starts next month, so things improve by the time the season starts. Hurts is working with his seventh different play-caller in seven years, so there is a transition period during which he needs to get comfortable with Mannion's system and work through it himself.

Patience is clearly needed from all Eagles fans, the organization, Hurts, and the offense as they work through this rough patch. The potential Mannion's scheme has is enough to know this will only work in the Eagles' favor.
