Eagles roster won't have room to keep a former Packers draft pick

To say the Philadelphia Eagles have had a busy offseason when it comes to the wide receiver position would be a grand understatement.

Of course, the biggest news came when the Eagles traded their former WR1 in A.J. Brown, sending him to the New England Patriots to kick things off in June. But that part of the depth chart has been extremely fluid overall.

The same day Philly traded Brown, they also signed veteran Samori Toure, a move that flew under the radar given the magnitude of the news about Brown.

Green Bay Packers fans would tell you they once had legitimate optimism for Toure after a mini-rookie breakout in October of 2022, but since then, he's bounced around a bit and has most recently landed in Philly.

Samori Toure will have a hard time making the Eagles' final roster this summer

The 2022 seventh-round pick spent his first three years with the Packers before bouncing between the Chicago Bears, Denver Broncos and New Orleans Saints as a practice squad-type player. Now, joining the party much later than any other free agent additions, Toure faces an uphill battle.

It isn't fully fair to write anybody off completely, but in all likelihood, there is no chance he makes this final roster.

Of course, we know DeVonta Smith is getting set to have his name atop that depth chart for the first time in his career. Eagles fans would agree that Smith is fully capable of being a WR1 in this league, and he's about to prove it.

Next in line is rookie Makai Lemon. The first-round pick out of USC is certain to be a factor within this offense, followed closely by another former Packer in Dontayvion Wicks, whom the Eagles traded for back in April.

Checking in at no. 4 in this room is Hollywood Brown who would be a shocking cut if it came to that. He's making this team.

It is hard to imagine Darius Cooper and Johnny Wilson not making the cut, either, which brings us to six in total.

Do the Eagles even keep six wideouts? Who knows.

But Toure is back there with the likes of Quez Watkins, Danny Gray, Britain Covey, and another free agent signing in Elijah Moore. That is a crowded group simply competing for the first spot on the practice squad at this stage.

Toure came to the Eagles only having played in one game last year, with the Saints, catching just one pass for three yards.
