There is a lot that can be said about the Philadelphia Eagles' offense to open up training camp, but there is still a refreshing feeling with watching this unit in 2026 compared to last year.
New Eagles offensive coordinator Sean Mannion is bringing in a completely new scheme, which will lead to some early struggles. Mannion praised the offense for having read the playbook and going fast with each play. Where the team has struggled with consistency on the field, from Jalen Hurts taking sacks to multiple incompletions, this unit still has a lot of work to do.
What has been a joy for Eagles fans is to hear Mannion face the tough Philly sports media and answer their questions. He spoke with them before their Day 3 practice, where he talked about his thoughts on the team so far.
"Yeah, I think the biggest thing we want is just great effort every day and then compete," Mannion said via SportsRadio 94 WIP's Eliot Shorr-Parks. "You know, there's a big thing coming in, coming into this camp for us is every day is high-level competition and competing against yourself for a role on the roster. And again, competing against the defense every day is going to make us better and better. And then I think for us offensively, it's, 'Hey, can we have a really sound pre-snap operation?' Those are some of the things early in camp Day 1 we struggled with a little bit. I thought there was improvement Day 2. And then just assignment alignment execution: are we getting lined up properly, are we not having mental errors? And so through the first two days of practice, it's still early, but I'm happy with the progress we've made. We just got to keep improving from there."
Eagles fans are not getting reminded of Kevin Patullo at all with Sean Mannion
It feels like this narrative has been beating a dead horse, but it's still so noticeable. When Mannion talks, it feels very different from what it was like with Patullo in 2025.
Mannion takes accountability for what's going on, but also breaks down what isn't working and the plan to get it done. He also talks about the positives the team is doing.
When Patullo spoke last year, he was very in-depth with his answers, but they also didn't feel like they were connecting well. A lot of that has to do with the offense's constant struggles. They finished in the bottom 15 in total offense, passing, rushing, and points, just in case fans need to be reminded of the bad times last year.
This could definitely be more recent bias, but Mannion is conducting himself as an offensive coordinator should. He has been heavily involved in all position groups and is making sure they are trending in the right direction.

For a first-time offensive coordinator, Mannion has a lot of Eagles fans believing that he is the real deal. Sometimes, it just takes a new voice to help with that, and it's made a real difference.
