A new offensive vision under first-year offensive coordinator Sean Mannion provides a fresh opportunity for a score of returning Philadelphia Eagles, including Cameron Latu.

The tight end-fullback-special teams ace is a jack of many trades, and his positional flexibility and overall athleticism spell just the type of hybrid performer in the H-Back spot for Mannion to utilize, dating from his days in Green Bay coaching within a Matt Lafleur-led offense.

Cameron Latu could fit the H-Back look for Eagles

Mannion, who served as an offensive assistant (2024) and quarterbacks coach (2025) under LaFleur, was a key part of a Packers staff that implemented the H-back position, blending the responsibilities of traditional tight ends with a fullback who also lined up in the backfield. In Green Bay last season, they looked to Josh Whyle to fill that role last year, and with Mannion's arrival in Philadelphia, a versatile athlete like Latu could fit this vision like a glove.

Latu, as Eagles fans well know, has contributed in an array of ways. Head coach Nick Sirianni clearly values the former Crimson Tide athlete's development, as he saw action on special teams this past season and also got snaps at tight end and fullback. And while he's proven to be a force in special teams, including a dominant Week 4 effort against Tampa Bay, his hybrid athletic traits could be put to good use by Mannion and company in this new-look offense.

While the trio of Dallas Goedert, free agent newcomer Johnny Mundt, and second-round rookie Eli Stowers headline the tight end group, Latu returns with Grant Calcaterra and rookie undrafted free agent Dae'Qon Wright.

And with Goedert and eventually Stowers, figuring to soak up most of the passing targets, Mundt excels, of course, in the blocking phase, with Calcaterra and Wright facing a roster crunch due to their limited blocking skills.

The current roster composition, coupled with the H-Back element that has arrived with Mannion, plays perfectly into Latu's long-term prospects. With his athleticism, blocking ability, and willingness to contribute in various phases, Latu has a chance to win over his new coordinator in short order.

At 6-foot-5 and 244 pounds, Latu has shown he can move bodies when it comes to run blocking. With quarterback Jalen Hurts primed to spend more time under center and more time with tight ends and the H-Back position in motion, Latu's versatility could lend itself perfectly to this type of role. The presence of Carson Steele in camp, of course, looms, but Latu's athleticism and elite positional flexibility should give him the edge when all is said and done.

As a former third-round selection of the San Francisco 49ers in 2023, Latu is embarking on his most important season to date. A new day in Philadelphia, fueled by a new offensive coordinator, has dawned. He's a jack of all trades, and Mannion could look to Latu for his biggest role in NFL action yet.
