Could he be an option on another team?

The depth of this 2026 Philadelphia Eagles feels different from other team rosters of the past.

Eagles general manager Howie Roseman deserves a ton of credit for the work he has done in the offseason to find good talent for the roster without spending a ton of money aside from Jonathan Greenard. Roseman's most expensive free agent signing was cornerback Riq Woolen at $12 million for one season, and that looks like a great value.

Even during the draft, Roseman found value in every round and brought in some great potential athletes, while taking some risks along the way. Eagles seventh-round pick Uar Bernard is a great example of taking a chance on someone who has never played American football but has great upside value. Bernard wasn't the only new Eagles rookie who hasn't played American football and has potential.

Joshua Weru will make noise on the Eagles or another team

Similar to Bernard, Weru comes in with zero experience, but he is a freakish athlete at edge rusher. At 6-foot-4 and 244 pounds, Weru ran an impressive 4.45-second 40-yard dash at the HBCU Combine/International Player Pathway Pro Day.

Weru has a familiar path to the NFL that another Eagles player, Jordan Mailata, took to get to this point. Mailata played rugby before being drafted by the Eagles, and the same is true for Weru, as he played for the Kenya national team.

That kind of ability will have Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio excited, as he can take advantage of Weru's versatility and athleticism to move him around on defense. While edge rusher is where he will most likely play, don't be surprised if he plays some inside linebacker among other positions.

The reality for Weru is that his chances of making the Eagles' 53-man roster are pretty slim. With no real experience playing football, 2026 is being seen as a learning year for him, but that doesn't mean other teams won't have their eyes on him.

There were reportedly three other NFL teams interested in signing Weru before the Eagles signed him as an undrafted free agent: the Las Vegas Raiders, Arizona Cardinals, and Denver Broncos. If Weru ends up on the Eagles' practice squad after training camp, there's a good chance one of those teams could claim him for the active roster, and Philly won't be able to do anything about it.

Weru will be a fascinating player to watch at training camp for the Eagles, and whether he can make the most of his opportunity in the NFL. While he may have never touched a football before, he's got a chance to make a difference in the league with the Eagles or another team.
