There were a lot of standouts from the opening day of NFL Combine workouts, but Penn State defensive tackle Zane Durant stood out from the rest, and might have the Philadelphia Eagles' undivided attention.
Durant put up some great numbers at the combine as he was the fastest defensive tackle there with a 4.75-second 40-yard dash, had the fastest 10-yard split with a 1.66-second run, was fourth in the vertical with a 33.50", and had the fifth-longest broad jump with 9'4". Before his workout, Durant mentioned he spoke with the Eagles and had a chance to interact with Eagles defensive line coach Clint Hurtt.
“I got to meet with him (Hurtt) a lot,” Durant said via Penn Live. “It was exciting to hear from them and have a little bit of interest from them.”
Zane Durant looks like a prospect the Eagles can't ignore
Durant played all four years of college at Penn State, taking on a larger role on their defense over the last three seasons. In 2025, he racked up 25 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, four sacks, two pass deflections, and one interception in 12 games.
Going into the combine, Durant was seen as a late Day 2 to fourth-round pick in the draft. The speed and explosiveness that Durant showed might have been enough to make him almost a lock for Day 2 of the draft.
While defensive tackle is not a huge need for the Eagles, general manager Howie Roseman has proven over the years that he is a big fan of linemen, whether on offense or defense. Roseman understands that winning in the trenches leads to wins on the field, as he has made several picks at the position since 2022 with Jordan Davis, Jalen Carter, Moro Ojomo, and Ty Robinson.

Durant might need time to develop behind those guys on the line, but the Eagles would be crazy not even consider him after the performance he put on.
