Many Philadelphia Eagles fans just assumed that the moment Kevin Patullo was removed as the offensive coordinator, the team would have its pick of the litter. That hasn't been the case.
The Eagles have interviewed nearly 20 candidates for the job, with nearly half out of the running due to withdrawals, leaving many fans wondering what is going on. 97.5 The Fanatic radio host John Kincade shared his thoughts on what is holding the Eagles back from hiring an offensive coordinator.
"There is some sort of a blockade to the job, and the blockade is the head coach. And the organizational blockades that they have put into place, where you must assume this offensive line coach, you must assume this philosophy, you must come in here and live by the 'this is what we want. Now come on in and run your offense, but you're gonna run your offense in here. Let me fit you for this straitjacket, and you come in here, and you be this young, creative guy, but you're trying to do the show in a straitjacket.' That is what they are asking people to do."
Is Nick Sirianni holding candidates back from being creative?
There is a balancing act for the Eagles' offense between understanding what works and trying to bring something new to the table. Philly has been all about getting the running game going and passing less. Kellen Moore learned this lesson the hard way in 2024, when he tried to pass the ball too much with Jalen Hurts. After he transitioned to running the ball more, the Eagles had one of the best offenses in the NFL and won the Super Bowl.
At the same time, the way things worked in 2025 with the Eagles' offense...well, it didn't work. They were in the bottom 15 in every major offensive category, including total offense, rushing, passing, and scoring.
The Eagles have to be open to the idea that someone on offense has to change and change in a big way. There is too much talent to look the way they did when Patullo was running the offense.
Now the question is coming up about Sirianni and having too much say about the offense instead of letting go of control. Everyone likes to claim that Sirianni does "nothing" as the head coach, but he's involved in the offense a lot, and it almost feels like he needs to loosen the grip of it.

It still remains to be seen what is going on with the offensive coordinator search and who will end up getting the job, but who they hire will be very telling for the Eagles and Sirianni moving forward.
