The playoffs are two weeks away, and the Philadelphia Eagles might have an idea of who they will play in the NFC Wild Card.
Philly enters the week with a 10-5 record and is the NFC East champion. The Eagles are currently in the third seed in the NFC playoffs behind the Seattle Seahawks at number one and the Chicago Bears at number two. While the number one seed is out of the picture for the Eagles, they could capture the number two seed if they win out and the Bears lose out.
There is a high possibility the Eagles stick as the number three seed in the playoffs and might be stuck there. If they do, who are they set to face, according to CBS Sports projections?
Philly might be reviving their rivalry with the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Wild Card
This is one rivalry the Eagles fan base has missed out on, as the two haven't faced off in two years. The last two matchups between the teams were not close games, but ones where both teams were motivated to play each other.
In 2022, the two teams played in the NFC Championship game, which was infamous for the 49ers having to battle through without multiple quarterbacks, with Brock Purdy and Josh Johnson getting hurt, and a one-armed Purdy having to finish the game as the quarterback. The Eagles ended up blowing them out 31-7 to make the Super Bowl, which they lost to the Kansas City Chiefs two weeks later.
Then the two last played each other in 2023, where the 49ers got their revenge on a slumping Eagles team 42-19. This game is considered to be one of the first games that launched Philly into losing six of their last seven games, including the NFC Wild Card loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
In the past, the 49ers have stated how much they hate the Eagles and their fan base, and haven't been shy about sharing their feelings. The feeling was mutual for the Birds, but both teams have changed a lot since then.
Philly won the Super Bowl last year while San Francisco fumbled with six wins in 2024 after injuries derailed their season. The 2025 season has been different, as the Eagles and 49ers are a combined 21-9.

While the Eagles would probably prefer to play the Green Bay Packers in the Wild Card, the 49ers would make for a fun revenge storyline as they can prove they can beat the top teams in the NFL. A lot can change in the next two weeks, since the 49ers are still fighting for the number one seed, but it would be an excellent matchup for the Eagles to have.
