5 Eagles who must rewrite their current narrative in Week 2 vs. Saints

Stories are being written about this Eagles squad, and many of their players need to change their narrative.

Public perception... We go back and forth about how we feel about it. If we're being honest, most of the general public doesn't know what they are talking about, especially when discussing the Philadelphia Eagles.

It doesn't matter if we're discussing the social media ramblings of a casual fan or the broader platforms like FS1's First Things First. Seriously. why is Nick Wright still employed?

But, here's what must be remembered about fan and media opinions. They are important to some degree. Ignore the public's request long enough, and jersey sales dry up and stadiums are packed with more of the visiting team's fans.

Here's a message to Howie Roseman and Nick Sirianni. There are concerns about your football team.

Several Eagles need to raise their approval rating in Week 3.

Now, before we go any further, let's clear something up. The Eagles organization is home to the NFL's most loyal fans. When we mention diminishing jersey sales and empty stadiums, those issues are more common in cities like Charlotte or Los Angeles than in a football-crazy town like Philly.

Win or lose, Lincoln Financial Field will be packed on game days. Still, Birds fans are like The Incredible Hulk. You wouldn't like them when they are angry.

Walking into Week 3 of the NFL regular season, there are concerns about the UGA stars and several other Eagles who need to raise their approval rating. They'll earn their shot when Philadelphia travels to the Big Easy to face the New Orleans Saints.

Nick Sirianni, head coach

The narrative: He's a lame-duck head coach who doesn't do anything.

Following a heartbreaking loss that shouldn't have occurred on Monday, Nick Sirianni has come under fire. He didn't call that final pass to Saquon Barkley on third down, nor did he drop the pass attempt. Still, it's the head coach's job to accept responsibility when these things happen, and Nick is well aware of that.

Saquon has accepted responsibility. That's good to see, but we know he'll be here next season. We aren't so certain about Coach Sirianni's job security.

A 1-2 start will only make Nick's seat warmer. A win could pull him out of some of the fire. He has the highest winning percentage of any active head coach. He needs to find that 'leader of men' again.

Jalen Carter, Jordan Davis, and Nolan Smith - the Georgia legends

The narrative: The Eagles wasted several draft picks on the Georgia stars, especially on the three guys drafted in Round 1.

During the 2022 and 2023 NFL Drafts, the Eagles spent three first-round choices on former Georgia stars Jordan Davis, Jalen Carter, and Nolan Smith. After the first two weeks of the season, they are all in unchartered territory experiencing things they aren't used to... scrutiny, doubt, and disapproval.

All have talent. Frankly, we feel like Nolan Smith has been misused since his arrival. Maybe a change or two will get the ball rolling.

Smith is a sideline-to-sideline guy. Davis isn't a pass rusher. Carter is potentially a game-wrecker, but he needs to get his arse to meetings on time.

We're trying to be patient, but this is hard to do. Philly invested too much into these guys to get nothing from them.

Vic Fangio, defensive coordinator

The narrative: Everyone has caught up to Vic Fangio's defensive scheme, and the game has passed him by.

Sometimes, we throw words around so much that they don't carry the sting they should. 'Genius' is one of those words. It's said too much. It lands on guys who don't deserve the title. Vic Fangio doesn't really qualify.

He had a good idea and theory. He's certainly more experienced than the average defensive coordinator, but does that make him a 'genius'.

Watching his unit work during the first two weeks, we've seen things to praise him for, but we've also seen evidence that they game has caught up with him.

The Saints average more than 40 points per game, and if they put a '40 burger' on Philly with all of this talent, his reviews aren't going to be favorable, nor should they be.

Every member of this team's rotation of edge rushers

The narrative (THIS ONE IS 100% accurate): The Eagles are getting NOTHING from this group of edge rushers.

The Eagles have five designated edge rushers on this roster. Two are former first-round draft choices (Brandon Graham and Nolan Smith). One is a former Pro Bowler (Josh Sweat). One is a rookie (Jalyx Hunt). The other was given a massive payday this offseason (Bryce Huff).

NONE OF THEM HAVE REGISTERED A QUARTERBACK SACK. That is, in a word, unacceptable.

Some of this is on Fangio. Scheme something up! Whatever you're doing, it isn't working.

Philly got two sacks from Zack Baun in Week 1. They got one from Milton Williams in Week 2. That's it. That's all. Where is the pass rush?

Much will be forgiven if they put some heat on Derek Carr in Week 2 because you damn sure can't let that guy get comfortable in the pocket.
