Derek Barnett and 5 new Eagles fighting for their roster lives during the 2023 NFL season
Derek Barnett, defensive end
In 2017, during an NFL Draft that was hosted in Philadelphia, the Eagles added an eight-man class to their nest. Four of the players the Eagles took don't play in the NFL anymore: Donnel Pumphrey, Shelton Gibson Nathan Gerry, and Elijah Qualls.
Four players from that class are still making a living in the National Football League. Three play in other cities (Mack Hollins, Sidney Jones, and Rasul Douglas), making Derek Barnett the only person from that class that's still on the Eagles roster.
Barnett isn't what you would call a fan favorite, but his teammates and coaches love him. Be that as it may, If the Eagles are looking to shop someone to trade now that June 1st has come and gone, Barnett might be their best negotiating piece.
Teams are always looking for a pass rusher, and even though Barnett hasn't become what the Eagles hoped he would, there's are chance they can still get something for him, even if it's a late-round draft choice. If none of that factors into Philadelphia's thinking, Derek Barnett will again be on their roster, but this could be his final tour of duty in the midnight green.
