Eagles are a 'best fit' for a top remaining defensive free agent

Could Philadelphia look to add some more veteran help on the defensive line?

The Philadelphia Eagles have already added a lot of talent to their defense over the offseason, but why not add even more? ESPN recently listed Philadelphia as an ideal fit for veteran defensive end Calais Campbell, who has yet to sign a deal in free agency.

At 37 years old, Campbell is probably past his prime as a player, and it's fair to wonder just how much gas he has left in the tank. But, he did start all 17 games for the Atlanta Falcons last season, and he was still productive. So when it comes to his gas tank, there's probably still enough in there to start the mower a few times, at least.

Here's what ESPN had to say about his fit in Philly:

"A return to Atlanta is a possibility for Campbell if he decides to play another season at age 38. He tied for the team lead in sacks last season with 6.5. But I'm instead looking at the Eagles. Campbell would fit in Vic Fangio's 30 front as a rotational end, building more depth.

"At 6-foot-8 and 282 pounds, he can hold the point against the run game when matched up with offensive tackles, and he was a productive player last season for the Falcons, registering 28 pressures. I see Campbell as a total pro who could help multiple NFL squads."

Would Campbell fit in Philly?

The short answer is yes. Campbell has played on both ends of the line over the course of his career, so he could slot in wherever the Eagles felt like they needed him more. Sure, they have some young players on the line they'd like to continue to develop like Jordan Davis and Jalen Carter, but having another proven, experienced veteran to add some depth to the line couldn't hurt.
