The secondary, specifically the cornerback position, was a major area of weakness for the Philadelphia Eagles last season. The front office was extremely proactive in addressing that weakness this offseason though, as the team drafted cornerbacks with its first two picks in the 2024 NFL Draft -- Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean.

Influx of talent at the CB spot

Now, with those rookies joining Darius Slay and James Bradberry, the Eagles suddenly have an influx of talent at the cornerback position, and that improvement was recently highlighted by Bleacher Report as the team's biggest offseason storyline.

With both rookies aiming to play big roles right away, the competition at the position over the offseason should be extremely interesting. From Bleacher Report:

"The Eagles looked to shore up their secondary this offseason by reuniting with C.J. Gardner-Johnson in free agency and spending early-round picks on Toledo's Quinyon Mitchell and Iowa's Cooper DeJean.

"While veterans Darius Slay and James Bradberry remain in Philly for now, Mitchell's elite athletic profile, ball skills and pure man-coverage ability should help him earn a starting job right away. DeJean's hybrid skill set should allow new defensive coordinator Vic Fangio to remain creative with his personnel on the back end. . . Both corners figure to play substantial roles this fall as the Eagles attempt to punch their ticket to the playoffs for the fourth straight year."

CB talent spilling over to safety?

With so much talent at cornerback, some of that talent might spill over to the safety spot. The Eagles have already had Bradberry take some reps at safety this offseason, and DeJean might also get some work at safety.

“The more positions I can learn I feel like it helps me out on the field when I'm at one of those positions," DeJean said. "You know, knowing what those other positions are doing and where I can get my help.”

With so much talent in the secondary suddenly, it will be interesting to see how the position battles shake out over the offseason for Philadelphia.
