Eagles QB Marcus Mariota takes center stage in new Netflix 'Quarterback' original series
The story didn't dominate the headlines per se, but there were a few shockwaves that permeated through the Philadelphia Eagles fan base when the announcement was made that Marcus Mariota had joined the nest. They did so for obvious reasons.
It has long been a well-known fact that former Eagles head coach Chip Kelly had been enamored with the idea of adding his former pupil at Oregon to Philly's roster during the 2015 NFL Draft. Why wouldn't he? Looking back, Chip was obsessed with transforming the NFL's Birds into a professional reincarnation of the Ducks.
Most of us are still reeling from the additions of Kenjon Barner, Josh Huff, and Kiko Alonso, but the Mariota idea might have worked... or Kelly could have ruined his career. The jury's still out on that one.
That's all water under the bridge now. Still, it's hard to avoid thinking about the 'what-ifs'. We'll never know what may have happened had Mariota landed in the City of Brotherly Love. Here's what we can promise, however. Marcus Mariota's 2022 NFL season, one that was spent in Atlanta with the Falcons, will be featured in a new Netflix docuseries called Quarterback.

How did Marcus' career turn out you ask? Just in case you haven't been paying attention, here's the update.
The Tennessee Titans removed all temptation by selecting Marcus second overall during the 2015 NFL Draft. Philly didn't make their pick until the 20th selection. Nelson Agholor was the choice. Things really got interesting after that.
Kelly was fired two days before the 2016 new year. The Birds drafted Carson Wentz the following April (and Jalen Hurts in 2020). Mariota landed on two more rosters after five years in Nashville only to find his way to, you guessed it, the Philadelphia Eagles during the 2023 NFL offseason.
That alone is a good enough reason to check out Mariota on Quarterback when it premiers on Wednesday. The first four minutes have already been released. Check out the teaser.
Jalen Hurts is firmly entrenched as the Eagles' starter; however, should he endure any injury, Marcus provides a calming influence and a similar skillset to QB1. His addition ensures the Birds won't have to alter their game plan too much in Hurts' absence should anything unforeseen occur.
Marcus Mariota has appeared in 87 career regular-season games with 74 starts. He has thrown for 15.656 yards while tossing 92 touchdowns versus 54 interceptions. He has also run for 2,012 yards and 17 TDs on 349 attempts.
He has also added 88 rushing yards, 463 passing yards, and four TD passes during six postseason games with two starts. It should be fun to learn more about him while watching him in his new documentary.
