The Eagles survived a huge scare versus the Cowboys and improved to 8-1 on the season. Here's an attempt to make sense of things.

We'll be honest here. After all, without honesty, what do we have, right? The truth is this. We still don't know what to say here. The Philadelphia Eagles had NO BUSINESS winning that game, but then again, we could say the same about the hated Dallas Cowboys.

Both teams left it all on the field. Both teams did all that they could to win this game AND lose it. Still, in the end, Philly wasn't as bad as their rivals when it mattered the most. We say they weren't 'as bad' because, as of right now, it's hard to say that the Birds were better.

This one ends with an Eagles victory. In the end that's all that matters, but raise your hand if you feel like you need a drink.

The Eagles survive despite what might be the worst 46 seconds played in the history of this franchise.

Had we not seen it for ourselves, we wouldn't have believed it. Following a 55-yard punt, the Cowboys were set up with first and ten, no timeouts, and 46 seconds left to play.

We were this close to discussing what would be remembered as one of the biggest collapses in the history of this franchise. Here's what happened.

1st & 10 at the Cowboys 14-yard line

Dak Prescott threw an incomplete pass to Michael Gallup. James Bradberry was injured during the play AND called for defensive pass interference. Things only got worse from there.

1st & 10 at the 50-yard line

Prescott drops one in to Ferguson for ten yards. Darius Slay was injured during the play. A roughing the passer penalty was called on Haason Reddick. 15 yards were enforced.

1st & 10 at the Eagles' 25-yard line

Prescott completes one to CeeDee Lamb for 14 yards.

1st & 10 at Philly's 11-yard line

Encroachment is called on Jalen Carter.

1st & 5 at Philly's 6-yard line

Cowboys offensive lineman Tyler Smith is flagged for a false-start penalty. That backs Dallas up.

1st & 10 at the Eagles' 11-yard line

Prescott sacked by Josh Sweat for an 11-yard loss.

2nd & 21 at the Eagles' 22-yard line

Prescott's pass attempt to incomplete deep left to Jalen Tolbert falls incomplete.

3rd & 21 at the Eagles' 22-yard line.

Dallas is called for a delay of game penalty.

3rd & 26 at the Eagles 27-yard line

Prescott completes a deep pass to CeeDee Lamb for 23 yards. Darius Slay, who was back on the field by this time, made the stop. Sydney Brown delivered an assist. Lamb fumbled. Reed Blankenship jumped on the ball. The game was over.

Do you see what we mean? It was the worst 46 seconds of football ever played, but Philly won. They enter the bye week with an 8-1 record and a stranglehold on the NFC's top spot in the conference.

Hey, at least Howie Roseman was into it!

With that being said, we won't beat our guys up too much. Games like this, however, sometimes make us ask ourselves why we bother though. We're getting too old for all of this cardiac ball.
