You would be forgiven for turning off the Philadelphia Eagles' slugfest against Derek Carr and the New Orleans Saints, as the first three quarters saw just three total points (a Saints field goal) added to the ledger while some baffling Nick Sirianni decisions gave the Philly fanbase a collective heart attack.

Things managed to get a bit more lively in the fourth quarter, however. ASaquon Barkley touchdown run paired with a Dallas Goedert scamper down inside the 10-yard line and a clutch Reed Blankenship interception played a part in Philadelphia avoiding a 1-2 start by defeating the Saints 15-12 on the road.

The Eagles needed a few miracles at the end, but they got it thanks to their skill position playmakers. Saints fans can talk a big game, and defensive tackle Jalen Carter let them have it after the victory.

Carter, who has come under fire for a slow start to the 2024 season, was seen going back and forth with Saints fans in the waning seconds of Philly's victory. While no one knows what was said in this exchange, it's hard to blame Carter's emotions running hot after such a wild victory.

Jalen Carter mocks Saints fans after Eagles 15-12 win

Carter, who piled up four tackles and two tackles for loss in this game, was a big part of an Eagles defense that managed to clamp down on a Saints team who topped 40 points in each of their first two games of the season. After a solid opening drive, Carr and the Saints were utterly shut down.

The Eagles certainly have a lot of issues that need to be cleaned up, but this defensive performance was extremely encouraging. After Jordan Love reeled off multiple big plays in Brazil and Kirk Cousins led an improbablt comeback in Brazil, holding Carr to minimal success is exactly what this team needed.

Carter may not be the game-changer some fans thought they were getting out of the former Georgia star, but games like this can oplay a big part into his evolution into a Pro Bowl player. He and Jordan Davis have had struggles, but games like this make for very encouraging signs.

However, if the Eagles are going to once again assert themselves as possible Super Bowl contenders, Carter will need to step up. He did so today, and he made sure to let Saints fans know just how badly he whooped their behind.
