Matchups and predictions for every Eagles NFC East rival in Week 6 of the 2023 NFL season

  • The Eagles remain undefeated.
  • The Commanders are ruthlessly inconsistent.
  • The Giants are just a group of guys and not a football team.
  • The Cowboys did that thing where they lose in a pathetic fashion.

Cowboys offense versus Chargers defense

In 2023 if you’re going to have an offense that primarily runs the ball and seldom passes, you’re only going to win if you can establish a lead and never give it up. That’s what the Cowboys’ head coach Mike McCarthy is trying to do.

To his credit, when it works, it works very well (against garbage teams). When it doesn’t work, you make everyone watch a terrible Sunday Night Football game and we all get to laugh at you because his team loses by 32 points.

To date, running back Tony Pollard has carried the ball 81 times this season. In 2022, he carried the ball 193 times which was a career-high at the time. Yes, he is 58% short of reaching his career high in rushing attempts, and we're just five games into the season.

That probably won’t matter much for this specific game, but keep that in mind later in the season. For a guy who has never been a workhorse running back, they’re putting a lot on his plate.

Dallas is probably going to stick to their game plan in Week 6 because they’re a bunch of dummies. Earlier this week, Cowboys Owner/General Manager/Deity Jerry Jones did his weekly radio interview and he was asked about whether or not he wanted to see his wide receivers get more targets.

That’s important because through five games CeeDee Lamb has had double-digit catches in one game and only four catches in the other four games. Jerry said that he didn’t want his receivers to get more targets… so… you know… that’s ridiculous… and funny.

It’s the Chargers’ defense that’s going to be under pressure here. They’ve allowed over 20 points in four of their five games. The one game they didn't win was when they played the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 4, and they were starting a rookie quarterback, so that makes sense.

If Los Angeles can get out to an early lead, they can force Dallas to panic on offense. That’ll make them put the game in Dak’s hands. If that’s what happens, the Chargers’ pass rush can do what they do well. Linebacker Khalil Mack has been a monster with six sacks and 5 tackles for a loss. That other Bosa brother, Joey, has been good too with three sacks.

Prediction: Chargers +2

The key to this game is for the Chargers’ offense to get that lead early. Kellen Moore can keep up his end of the bargain on the revenge game, they’ll be in a good spot to win the game.

We know the Cowboys are front runners and that’s the only way they’ll be able to win. All of their games have been blowouts for their team or their opponent. There’s no reason to think this trend is going to change in this game.

Expect the Chargers to pour it on and keep pouring on, keeping their defense in a good spot for an entire 60 minutes. Maybe we get more Cooper Rush in at quarterback for garbage time. That will make Jerry Jones create his own quarterback controversy. That’ll be delicious.
