Pre-draft visit wouldn't replace Dallas Goedert, but for sure challenge Eagles TEs

All the pre-draft visits are wrapping up for the Philadelphia Eagles, as they are close to knowing exactly how they will handle the 2026 NFL Draft.

One position of interest for the Eagles is at tight end as they figure out how they are going to handle it. Philly is trying to think about the future and finding the successor to Dallas Goedert for when the time comes that he leaves the franchise.

The Eagles had LSU tight end Bauer Sharp in for a pre-draft visit at their facilities, according to his Instagram. Sharp played two seasons at Southeastern Louisiana, then joined the Oklahoma Sooners in 2024, and finished off last season with the Tigers, catching 24 receptions for 252 yards and two touchdowns.

Eagles still looking at tight ends in the NFL Draft

Sharp is a nice prospect and would make for a good option in Day 3 if the Eagles wanted to add a depth piece to develop over the next few years. Philly shouldn't view him as the long-term solution, though, the kind of guy that guys like Oregon's Kenyon Sadiq or Vanderbilt's Eli Stowers are going to be.

The Eagles are loaded at tight end behind Goedert with guys like Grant Calcaterra, Stone Smartt, Johnny Mundt, and Cameron Latu. There are going to be one or two of those guys who won't be on the active roster when all is said and done.

Sharp would not make it easier on them as he could very well compete with Calcaterra for the backup job. It would leave Smartt and Mundt fighting for their lives to see if the Eagles would carry a fourth tight end on the roster. Latu could be saved since he is a special teams ace for the Eagles and is a valuable member of the team.

What helps with having all those tight ends is that the position is not as big a need in the draft as some might think. The Eagles have other positions that need to be addressed in the draft, such as edge rusher, safety, offensive line, and wide receiver.

This tight end class is good enough that the Eagles could wait until Day 2 or 3 to select one, but they shouldn't be in too much of a rush to take one from the position right away.
