Ranking Eagles playing on one-year deals with best chances to earn extensions

It isn't out of the realm of possibility that the Eagles will find another diamond in the rough.

We know we said we trust Howie Roseman and all. Honestly, we weren't lying. He asked for patience, and we all believe he has earned that. If you're getting a little older like we are, you know these past eight years are the best we have ever had as Philadelphia Eagles fans.

Three Super Bowl appearances since the 2017-18 season... Two Vince Lombardi Trophies... Some of our best memories as fans...

Now, comes the offseason. We've said goodbye to familiar faces. That hurts, but there's no need to panic. Howie has stopped some of the bleeding with low-risk, high-reward signings.

Ranking the Eagles one-year signees' chances of earning an extension

At the time of this story's release, the Eagles have 29 players set to hit free agency at the end of the 2025-26 NFL season. That list potentially includes nine players signed since the dawn of the new league year.

The hope is always that there's a Zack Baun in the bunch and very few Devin White-type signings as possible. Something tells us there are a few diamonds in the rough among the recent additions.

We've ranked the one-year signings based chances at earning an extension. Don't be surprised if some of the guys listed below see their Eagles tenure extend past next season.

1. Charley Hughlett, long snapper

Every team needs a long snapper, and Philly just replaced Rick Lovato. If the Charley Hughlett signing works out, and there's a big chance that it will, he should be around for a while.

2. Azeez Ojulari, EDGE

Philly needs talented edge rushers, especially after losing Josh Sweat to free agency and Brandon Graham to retirement. Azeez Ojulari might be just as good as Sweaty was... maybe... We already know he's better than Bryce Huff, and Azeez is a better run defender.

3. Josh Uche, EDGE

Most of what was just said about Ojulari can be copied and pasted under Uche's name. Josh's chances at earning an extension may come down to an internal and friendly competition between Philly's new pair of pass rushers.

4. Adoree' Jackson, cornerback

Some have asked the following question. What happens if we find out Adoree' Jackson has lost a step. We'd rather ask another question. What happens if we find out he hasn't?

5. A.J. Dillon, running back

Saquon Barkley carried the ball 345 times during the regular season and another 91 times during the playoffs. NO ONE carried the ball more.

A.J. Dillon is here to shoulder some of the workload and take some of the pressure off the reigning Offensive Player of the Year. If he proves he's past the injury concerns that forced him to miss most of last season, his time in Philly might be a little longer than expected.

Keep in mind the fact that Will Shipley is the only other tailback on the Eagles roster we feel comfortable seeing on the football field.

6. Harrison Bryant, tight end

Dallas Goedert has been dangled as trade bait. The expectation is Philly will release him if they don't find a partner. That would make Grant Calcaterra TE1. It also opens the door for Harrison Bryant slightly.

7. Patrick Johnson, EDGE/special teams

Patrick Johnson is the familiar face. He spent most of his first four seasons in Philadelphia. He's already familiar with the Vic Fangio scheme, and his value increases because he is also a good special teams player.

He might rise on this list.

8. Avery Williams, RB/returner

Speaking of versatility, welcome to Avery Williams' portion of the discussion. He's been listed as a cornerback. He has also taken carries as a tailback, but his primary role with the Birds will be taking over for Britain Covey as a returner.

That won't guarantee long-term employment though.

9. Kylen Granson, tight end

Granson, like Harrison Bryant, is here to potentially give Philly another body at tight end if Dallas Goedert leaves. Still, if we were to take bets, we'd assume Bryant earns a higher spot on the depth chart.

That makes Kylen a finge player at best and maybe someone who could wind up a cut candidate. This gets further complicated if the Eagles add a tight end in the 2025 NFL Draft.
