The Philadelphia Eagles have now lost three games in a row and are 8-5 on the season after an ugly loss to the Los Angeles Chargers on Monday Night Football. If nothing else, the Chargers needed overtime to put the Eagles away, but this latest loss felt like an early nail in the coffin.
It's clear the Eagles' issues are still there and won't be fixed. We're now 13 entire games into the season, so teams are who they are at this point. Philly's offense is inefficient and disjointed, and that might be putting it nicely.
Jalen Hurts committed five turnovers and just hasn't been very good all year. The run game has been hit-or-miss, mostly miss, and the OL play hasn't been what it used to be. Since Hurts played so poorly and is the QB, he has come under fire the most, but the other most notable player on offense quickly ran to his defense after the game.
Jalen Hurts defended big-time by Saquon Barkley following rough Eagles' loss
Here is Saquon Barkley talking about Jalen Hurts after the ugly loss:
“High,” Saquon Barkley said of his confidence in Hurts. “I don’t know what the numbers were. In my opinion, when we got the ball back in overtime, and I got Jalen Hurts as my quarterback, I got all the confidence we’re going to win the football game. Sometimes, it doesn’t work. …This doesn’t change anything.” -- Saquon Barkley
To be fair, what else was Barkley going to say? You rarely, if ever, see a player not publicly defend another teammate, so this could simply be Barkley saying what he has to say, rather than what he believes. Time and time again over the years, Jalen Hurts has come through in various instances.
Heck, this team won the Super Bowl last year, but Hurts has obvious limitations as a QB, and offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo does not seem to know how to mask those limitations. You rarely ever see a QB throwing four interceptions in a game, but it happened.
At the end of the day, Jalen Hurts is part of the problem, and there really isn't any arguing that. Saquon Barkley hasn't been great this year either, and the blame goes all around, but we all saw what happened on Monday Night Football.

Maybe Barkley honestly does believe what he said about Jalen Hurts, but Hurts will need to bounce back himself if the Eagles want to get into decent playoff positioning.
