Nobody left SoFi Stadium with more regret on Monday Night Football than Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts, who had the worst game of his NFL career on the biggest stage after the Eagles lost to the Los Angeles Chargers 22-19 in overtime.
Hurts finished the game completing 21 of 40 passes for 240 yards and four interceptions with a fumble loss. He only had eight yards rushing on four carries.
After the game, Hurts was asked about his performance, and he took it on the chin, holding himself accountable for the loss.
“I didn’t play well enough. Too many turnovers,” Hurts said via The Athletic's Zach Berman, “Lots of opportunities, especially when we get on the other side of the 50, and I wasn’t able to get us in the box.”
Hurts is owning that he lost the game for the Eagles
It was just a tsunami of mistakes made by Hurts, literally. There was two consecutive plays where Hurts ended up having three turnovers, one play saw him throw an interception, recover a fumble, and lose the football again.
Worst of all, it was just the passes he threw that were unusual for him. There were multiple off-target throws, with most of the complaints from the ESPN booth being that he was putting too much juice on the ball. One of the four interceptions was more of A.J. Brown dropping it, but the rest were solely on Hurts.
The star quarterback made sure to make it clear that no one but him deserves the blame for the loss.
“The ‘we’ — I look at it, it’s ‘I'," Hurts said. "It starts with me, how I play, how I lead, and my ability to go out there and figure it out. There’s no excuses.”
“I have to find a way to win."
Hurts is on a cold streak unlike anything Eagles fans have seen since 2023, and this might actually be worse. In four of the last five games, he has finished games with a completion percentage under 60%. He has thrown four touchdowns, five interceptions, and two fumbles lost in the previous five contests.

With the Eagles' backs against the wall at 8-5, Hurts has four games to redeem himself and find that Super Bowl MVP fans know so well. This version of Hurts won't cut it if the team wants to repeat as Super Bowl champions.
