Sean Mannion ensures Eagles fans he won't make the same Kevin Patullo mistakes

That's reassuring.

While there is uncertainty about what kind of play caller Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Sean Mannion is going to be, at least the fan base can all agree that he can't be any worse than it was under Kevin Patullo in the same role last year.

Patullo's predictable play calling last season was infuriating to watch and easy for defenses to figure out, as the Eagles finished in the bottom 15 in total offense, passing, rushing, and points, the first time that's happened since Nick Sirianni became the head coach with his tenure starting in 2021. Mannion had a chance to chat with the media to prove his worth, and his response about what kind of play-caller he wants to be will put Patullo's nonsense from 2025 to bed and give hope for the future.

“I want to be someone who is versatile," Mannion said via Eagles Wire's Victor Williams. "Someone who is always looking to attack defenses in different ways. Always looking to evolve. Ultimately, always looking to maximize the talent of our players.”

Sean Mannion is already looking like a much better choice than Kevin Patullo

The hope is that Mannion will incorporate different things into the offense rather than Patullo's run on first and second down, followed by a forced deep pass on third down. There are so many ways Mannion can bring versatility to the Eagles' offense.

One way is to finally bring some motions into the offense with receivers, tight ends, and running backs moving all over the field. Also, calling plays for quarterback Jalen Hurts to throw it in the middle of the field will help the narrative that he can't do it die out.

Mannion is adapting the Sean McVay/Kyle Shanahan offensive scheme that spreads defenses out and opens up the passing game. There are so many opportunities for the Eagles to use the weapons in their wide receiver and tight end rooms to attack defenses like they never have before.

The nightmares that Patullo created for the Eagles are long gone, and things are looking up with Mannion running the show now.
