The Philadelphia Eagles are looking over their options at tight end, and while there are plenty to choose from, it could be overwhelming, as they need quite a few.

Going into the offseason, at the tight end position, Dallas Goedert, Grant Calcaterra, and Kylen Granson are all free agents, with Cameron Latu as the only tight end on the active roster. There has been a lot of noise about Goedert potentially coming back in 2026, but it might be too expensive for what the Eagles can afford at the moment.

The Eagles might be left with looking at cheaper alternative options at tight end. Luckily for them, there might be a pretty good option that not only fits the price range but also aligns perfectly with new offensive coordinator Sean Mannion's scheme.

Sean Mannion's perfect tight end is out there in free agency

Mannion was with the Green Bay Packers last season as their quarterbacks coach, and one of the things that helped that unit out was having a blocking tight end who could also catch, with John FitzPatrick. The Eagles, while they could go with FitzPatrick in free agency, actually have another option that's better in Baltimore Ravens free agent Charlie Kolar.

Philly knows Kolar well, as they did their homework on him during the 2022 NFL Draft process. The Eagles elected to go with Calcaterra in the sixth round instead of Kolar, who was selected in the fourth round by the Ravens.

With the Ravens over the last four years, Kolar has caught 30 passes for 409 yards and four touchdowns. Those numbers might seem underwhelming, but he was more of a blocking tight end in their scheme, with Mark Andrews and Isaiah Likely the top guys.

While Kolar is not the solution as a starter, he would make for the perfect backup to whoever the Eagles end up selecting in the NFL Draft. Kolar will be reasonably affordable for the Eagles, as according to Spotrac, his estimated market value is $1.7 million per year.

The combination of what Kolar can do as a blocker and catch the ball is everything that the Eagles did not have in Calcaterra last season, as he was one of the worst blocking tight ends in the NFL. Philly should look at Kolar as a solid option for them in free agency.
