Philadelphia Eagles fans got their first chance to hear offensive coordinator Sean Mannion speak, and it went as well as anyone could have imagined.
Mannion was cool, calm, and collected up on stage like he was under center again when he was a quarterback. Many have questioned, though, whether he is ready for this moment after just two years of being an assistant coach. The new OC showed a bit of the swagger Eagles fans were hoping for in his response to that question.
"In terms of being ready for it, I think I lean on all my experiences," Mannion said via The Athletic's Zach Berman. "My years in Green Bay, my years as a player, learning things constantly along the way. I was fortunate to play for a while and play for a lot of great coaches. Even as a player, I knew this is what I wanted to do next. I knew I was going to get into coaching. So I always had that in mind as I'm learning things, how am I going to use this someday from a coaching perspective? I've been really fortunate to work with a lot of great coaches and pick up a lot of things along the way and always kind of attacked it with the end in mind in terms of knowing someday I'm going to get into coaching. Someday I hope to become a play caller. How am I going to use this? I really leaned into that throughout my career and learned a lot along the way."
Sean Mannion is 100% ready to be the Eagles' offensive coordinator
Mannion has been praised all offseason by other coaches for his football IQ, and he felt that he has been ready for this moment. He has learned from the best as a quarterback and assistant coach over the years, and his scheme will draw heavily on the influences of Sean McVay and Kyle Shanahan.
During the press conference, Mannion mentioned that he learned a lot and looked up to Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur, someone that he knows well. Mannion coached on LaFleur's staff over the last two years, including being his quarterback coach just last season.
One thing Eagles fans noticed was that Mannion already has a plan for how he will run this offense, as he wants to "blend" the new with the old. That kind of approach is exactly what will make him so good at the job, as he already knows he wants to play to the team's strengths while mixing in the new-age offensive style the team needs.

It remains to be seen how he does as a play caller, but Mannion is confident and seems to have everyone buying into the risk that Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni took in hiring him.
