Starter returns to Eagles practice while a few more sit out of the session
Most of you may not care much about this next statement, but we feel like sharing anyway. We feel much better than we felt after watching the Philadelphia Eagles get bludgeoned by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
We reasoned with ourselves. That loss was partially due to A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith's absence. Yep. That's what we said, but we couldn't explain the tail-kicking Vic Fangio's defense took.
We thought about that game through the bye week. There we were, still nervous. We thought beating the Cleveland Browns would cheer us up, but it didn't.
Why couldn't Philly blow out a bad Browns team? That's what we asked ourselves, but better performances vs. the New York Giants and Cincinnati Bengals have renewed confidence. The ship has been steadied... We hope.
Mekhi Becton returns to Eagles practice on Wednesday.
They say cornerbacks need short memories. The same is true about coaches and their players. As fun as those last two games were, the focus must shift to Week 9. The Jacksonville Jaguars are a bad football team, but they will beat Philly if they aren't prepared.
Another on-field practice session came on Wednesday. Mekhi Becton is back. That's good news.
He was forced out of Week 7's game vs. the New York Giants after only 15 plays. A concussion was the unfortunate diagnosis. He was inactive vs. Cincy, but that gives us hope that he'll be in the lineup this Sunday vs. the Jags.
Three Eagles starters sit out of practice.
Unfortunately, all of the news isn't good. Dallas Goedert sat out of Wednesday's practice session. So did Darius Slay and Landon Dickerson.
Goedert hasn't been on the field since suffering a hamstring injury vs. the Browns during Philly's first three snaps. We'll see if he improves any this week. Slay hasn't played a full game since Week 2. He's gutted it out on many occasions. The same knee he had surgically repaired last season has been bothering him, but now a groin injury has been added to the medical chart.
We haven't expected to see Jordan Mailata. He's on Philly's injured reserve, so we didn't add him to this list, but we will include Landon Dickerson and Jalen Carter. They sat out on Wednesday as well. Jalen is dealing with a shoulder issue. Landon's knee is bothering him. Hopefully, this doesn't involve any major or lingering issues.
