Since last offseason, Philadelphia Eagles backup quarterback Tanner McKee has been the subject of trade rumors, with NFL teams reportedly considering him either a solid backup or a player competing for a starting job.

McKee has played well in the six games he's appeared in with two starts, completing 61.4% of his passes for 597 yards and five touchdowns to one interception, going 1-1 in his starts. Eagles general manager Howie Roseman had a roundtable discussion with local reporters before going to the NFL Combine, where he commented about the McKee trade rumors.

“I can’t speak to what everyone else thinks of our players,” Roseman said via The Athletic's Brooks Kubena. “I know what we think of our players. That’s always been a position that we’ve put a great deal of priority on — to have a backup quarterback that we have a lot of confidence in. And we have a lot of confidence in him. Again, I go back to how we started this conversation about like, my job is to listen to anything about anyone. Whether I pull the trigger is a totally different story.”

Tanner McKee might get traded by the Eagles this offseason

There has been plenty of speculation about whether McKee will be traded and whether teams will actually go for him. The New York Jets have been the most frequently mentioned team in trade rumors involving McKee.

One question for the Eagles is what the trade compensation would have to be for them to pull the trigger on a trade. Most likely, Roseman would be looking for a Day 2 pick or at least a third-round pick to get it done. The more realistic scenario is that the Eagles could at least get a fourth-round pick for his services.

McKee has shown glimpses of being a great quarterback in the NFL, but both of his starts have been with the backups, so there has been limited visibility into how he would look with starters. Last season, in Week 18 against the Washington Commanders, he struggled with accuracy, completing under 60% of his passes and throwing one touchdown and one interception.

While that game was a slightly underwhelming performance for McKee, the Eagles should still get calls for his services. The Eagles would be wise to listen to those calls and hope they can land a good draft pick for him.
