The media needs to stop floating Eagles trade idea at one position

Here we go. The Philadelphia Eagles are being urged to make some of the most ridiculous trades ever. Let's do this.

Eagles news must be slow if fans are already hearing trade ideas on a position that really doesn't need it, but let's talk about it anyway. One position battle has been getting a lot of attention during training camp and sparking some real conversations: backup quarterback.

Andy Dalton and Tanner McKee have been going at it since OTAs for the QB2 job, and while both haven't been entirely great, there is a clear winner in the job so far. McKee is coming off a two-touchdown performance in the loss to the New England Patriots, while Dalton has completed 6-of-16 passes in two preseason games, so yeah, McKee should be winning the job. That doesn't stop everyone from wanting a trade stop at quarterback.

Eagles being told to consider trading for one of two quarterbacks

This started when Jason La Canfora floated the idea that the Eagles would draft Brendan Sorsby first in the supplemental draft, but that never happened, with him sitting out the 2026 season. Then, La Canfora came back with the Eagles potentially trading for Minnesota Vikings first-round draft bust J.J. McCarthy.

The narrative continued on every Eagles fan's favorite local sports radio station, SportsRadio 94 WIP, where host Spike Eskin proposed an idea. Eskin believes the Eagles should trade for either McCarthy or Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson.

“If you could get J.J. McCarthy for a fourth-round pick or Anthony Richardson for a fifth-round pick, especially if you don’t feel great about your backup quarterback situation, maybe you have some upside.”

Cool. That's exactly what the Eagles need. Two draft busts to develop behind Jalen Hurts for what? Eskin probably thinks they could replace Hurts in 2027 since he hasn't been a big fan of the Eagles' quarterback lately.

Thankfully, Eskin's co-host, former Eagles defender Ike Reese, has way more sense and said what Eagles fans know to be true.

"Don’t overthink it, Eagles — Tanner McKee is your backup QB. No need to trade for a reclamation project."

Roseman calling the Eagles a "QB factory" might have been one of the worst things to happen to this team, as the media has taken it too far. The Eagles don't need to be in on every quarterback available in a trade.

Richardson and McCarthy have completed under 60% of their career passes, and both have more interceptions than touchdowns. They combine for 22 touchdowns to 25 interceptions. Rough numbers.

Yes, Dalton isn't a great quarterback and was a rare miss by Roseman in a trade, but McKee still doesn't do the job and should be the backup for this team. The Eagles have other positions they can consider trading for, but quarterback isn't one. In fact, they need to trade Dalton away before ever even coming close to considering adding one.
