The Philadelphia Eagles were able to get the job done and are keeping two-time Pro Bowler Jalen Carter for a long time.
Carter and the Eagles agreed on a four-year, $152 million contract extension, making him the highest-paid defensive tackle in NFL history. It was a massive moment for the Eagles, as they don't have to deal with this being a distraction in training camp.
Eagles general manager Howie Roseman might be out of the woods for now, but next offseason will only get worse for him. There are five players who could be up next in line to secure contract extensions for the Eagles in the 2027 and 2028 offseasons.

DeVonta Smith, WR
Smith has a chance to use the 2026 season as a way to get his foot in the door for a new contract. He's just starting up his three-year, $75 million contract extension he signed a few years ago, which seems like an incredible deal for the Eagles now. If Smith goes off and becomes one of the best receivers in the NFL, Roseman will have no choice but to look at a new contract worth close to the $40 million per year mark to keep him happy.
Quinyon Mitchell, CB
There is no truer definition of being a shutdown corner than Mitchell is. He made the All-Pro team in just his second season and was ranked by NFL players as the league's 47th best player. Mitchell is honestly most likely next in line for a new contract coming up for the Eagles next offseason.
Cooper DeJean, CB
DeJean might see himself on the outside after the Carter extension, but if anyone can figure out a financial loophole, it's Roseman. After being an All-Pro, DeJean's value continues to go up as a versatile weapon on defense. Philly will have to find a way to give record-breaking money to him and Mitchell.
Jalyx Hunt, EDGE
Nolan Smith Jr. could be in the conversation, but Hunt has outperformed him over the last year, so he gets the edge. Hunt led the Eagles in sacks (6.5) and interceptions (three) in 2025, which is a great bargaining chip at the negotiation table. The Eagles need someone long-term to team up with Jonathan Greenard off the edge, but be a cheaper option. Hunt fits that description to a T.

Jalen Hurts, QB
Yes, Hurts still has to prove himself to the franchise, but if he performs well in 2026, the Eagles will have no choice but to get a contract extension done. First, it will save them money in the near future, but it also secures him for a long time. There's a lot that needs to happen for this to happen, but Hurts needs to be talked about for a new deal soon enough.
