The thought of that NFC Wild Card game loss to the San Francisco 49ers probably still stings for Philadelphia Eagles fans, but it's about to get a lot worse.
On the 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey's touchdown catch with 2:54 to go in the game to give San Francisco the lead late, there was one part of that play that got Eagles fans angry. 49ers offensive tackle Trent Williams was clearly seen holding Eagles edge rusher Nolan Smith Jr. on the play, but nothing was called.
Well, Williams was asked about this incident and whether he was holding on to the play. In the typical classless style from Williams, his response was on par with the type of person he is.
"I didn't see a flag,” Williams said via ProFootballTalk. “Hey, you only can’t get a speeding ticket if you don’t get pulled over, right. I didn’t see a flag.”
Trent Williams admits to getting away with holding call on Eagles
Yeah, that sounds about right. Let's face it, though, Williams isn't completely wrong. No flag was thrown, and he clearly got away with it, but there are better ways to respond to that question than that.
It was an old game where there weren't many penalties thrown in the contest at the beginning, but way more flags were thrown against the Eagles. Philly had seven for 48 yards while San Francisco only had one for 15 yards.
Yeah, pretty clear that the 49ers were just getting away with a lot more than the Eagles would. Not that the Eagles weren't deserving of most of their flags, but clearly, San Francisco just weren't flagged as often.
The reality is, Eagles fans can't pin this whole loss on a single missed call by the referees. Philly's offense did everything they could in the second half to lose this game, with drops and penalties that stalled drives and called back big plays.

If there is a silver lining to the loss, at least it forced the Eagles' hand on removing Kevin Patullo as offensive coordinator. That should count for something, right?
