There is something special brewing with the Philadelphia Eagles at their defensive tackle position.
When Ty Robinson first arrived in Philly as a Day 3 draft pick last year, the hope was that his size and strength would play a factor in this defense. Robinson ended up playing very little for the Eagles.
Year 2, though, might be trending in a much different position. Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio said that Robinson was on life support entering training camp this season. Robinson has proven in two games that he is massively giving this defense new life.
Ty Robinson is playing his best football with Eagles
The Eagles might have suffered a tough 24-21 preseason loss to the New England Patriots, but it felt like a breakthrough for Robinson. He finished with four tackles, three quarterback hits, three tackles for loss, and two sacks against New England.
It was clear from the beginning of the game that Robinson was going to bully the Patriots' offensive line. This is now two straight weeks that Robinson has had at least one sack, but this game was certainly his coming-out party.
After the game, Robinson spoke with reporters, and Fangio's comments came up. The second-year defender heard it and didn't disagree with his coach.
"And you know what? I'll take that as a compliment," Robinson said via The Philadelphia Inquirer's Olivia Reiner. "He's not wrong. Last year, just had to find myself. I was on scout team. Just understanding how the NFL worked. We have a pretty good offensive line, so getting to work against those guys, just get better, it's obviously showing that it's helped."
This is now a fascinating storyline for Eagles fans to follow, as Robinson has instantly become a key player in the franchise's future. Philly could see Robinson on the team long-term after these two games.
Specifically, the Eagles have to decide what to do with defensive tackle Moro Ojomo, who is another Day 3 draft pick who has become a force on the team. With Robinson's emergence, Philly now has a path where they don't have to pay Ojomo, and they could make Robinson a starter in his place next year.
Robinson is finally becoming everything Eagles fans were expecting him to be. He's only gotten stronger, which is making it clear that he's in for a breakout 2026 season.

This is only the first step in realizing the Robinson dream and making it a reality. Fangio was right about Robinson having life in this training camp. He certainly has and shows no signs of slowing down.
