Philadelphia Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio is never going to leave you wondering what he thinks about a player, development, or situation around his football team. The same man who savaged Adoree' Jackson last season is back at it with some pointed criticism wrapped in praise for defensive tackle Ty Robinson.
Fangio said that Robinson, who was picked in the fourth round of the 2025 NFL Draft and seldom saw the field as a rookie, has "come to life" of late. Naturally, because Fangio is such a curmudgeon, that praise was followed up by Fangio admitting Robinson has been on "life support" since he came to the Eagles.
While most Eagles fans will (rightly) take this as funny, showing Fangio's trademark aversion to sugarcoating anything, some fans should be a bit alarmed as to how little Robinson has developed. Popping in one or two practices may not be enough for Fangio to rip the proverbial ventilator cord out.
Eagles DC Vic Fangio has brutal insult for DT Ty Robinson
On one hand, Robinson wasn't supposed to make a big impact immediately. The 6-6 tackle out of Nebraska was always billed as a developmental player, and the Eagles have an elite pairing of Jalen Carter and Jordan Davis already holding down starter roles. However, Robinson mustered just five tackles and was rarely (if ever) on the field without the result already being decided.
Robinson was likely brought in to serve as more direct competition for Moro Ojomo, but the combination of Robinson's struggles to adapt to Fangio's defense and Ojomo's breakout campaign made it impossible for Philadelphia to take the former Texas star off the field. Ojomo continues to shine at practice, making life tougher for Robinson.
Vic Fangio doesn't think highly of Ty Robinson
Robinson may not be a favorite to be cut, but he is by no means a lock for the 53-man roster. Former Raiders draft pick Byron Young and practice squad performer Gabe Hall are still around, and it is not outside the realm of possibility. Fangio will not hesitate to get rid of a player who doesn't fit his scheme, irrespective of his status within the team. Look at Bryce Huff.

Fangio has put Robinson on notice. Rather than covering his true thoughts in coach-speak, Fangio let Robinson know that the better part of the last year and a change has not impressed him that much. A poor showing in the preseason against the New England Patriots might be all an already unimpressed Fangio needs to send Robinson away.
