There has been an odd amount of buzz around the idea that the Philadelphia Eagles could be looking at selecting a quarterback in the 2026 NFL Draft.

Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson has been seeing himself in the conversation to potentially get selected by the Eagles in the first or second round, with questions swirling around Jalen Hurts. While most people don't believe that will actually happen, selecting a quarterback is in the cards at some point.

NFL reporter Ryan Fowler has an interesting name that the Eagles have been attached to with Monmouth quarterback Derek Robertson, as Philly had him in on a local visit. Robertson was an FCS All-American in 2024, finishing his two seasons with 6,419 yards, 58 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions, adding a rushing score.

Eagles could look at Robertson as an option at quarterback

Robertson is a pure pocket passer and showed in college to have all the mechanics that might be able to translate to the professional level. He has made waves with NFL teams, meeting with over 20 teams over the last few months of the offseason.

The Eagles might not have to use a pick on Robertson, as he could either be a Day 3 pick or go undrafted in the 2026 NFL Draft. That would be ideal for the Eagles to just sign him after the draft and bring him in as a development fourth-string quarterback.

If Tanner McKee doesn't get traded during the draft, he will end up being Hurts' backup. Andy Dalton is new to the team, but the veteran would be a lock to be the third string.

Robertson might only see the field in preseason, but the Eagles would be a good place for him to learn how to be a professional and sit on the practice squad. Who knows, he might end up being the next backup quarterback on the team.
