What? Seriously?

Philadelphia Eagles fans are feeling absolutely exhausted by all the talk about quarterback Jalen Hurts.

A report from ESPN said Hurts is reportedly uncoachable, shows poor body language, and is prone to changing calls multiple times. This has led many to believe that the Eagles are not happy with Hurts at the moment. While appearing on The Herd with Colin Cowherd, NFL Draft analyst Lance Zierlein had a wild idea for the Eagles: potentially targeting Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson in the second round.

"How about the Eagles being a potential team in the second round? If they're not happy with Jalen," Zierlein said. "Ty Simpson could sit there for two years and learn under Jalen."

Eagles now suggested to potentially select Ty Simpson in 2026 NFL Draft

Simpson was named as a second-team All-SEC selection last season after passing for 3,567 yards and 28 touchdowns to five interceptions. He is projected to be the second-best quarterback in the NFL Draft behind Indiana's Fernando Mendoza, with some arguing that Simpson might actually be the better of the two.

As much as Eagles fans will absolutely hate the idea of selecting a quarterback in the second round, it's not entirely the craziest idea. Philly literally did it in 2020, when Hurts went in the second round and would eventually replace Carson Wentz late in the season.

Hurts is under contract for another three years, but he has a better chance of moving away from him after the 2027 season. The Eagles would save money if they wanted until the 2028 offseason to move on from Hurts. Another report from The Philadelphia Inquirer's Jeff McLane said the Eagles are not going to extend Hurts and are looking at 2026 as a prove-it year for him.

In reality, here we are as fans again, sitting through the weirdest timeline when Hurts, a three-time Pro Bowler, two-time Super Bowl participant, Super Bowl winner, and Super Bowl MVP, is actually being considered to be replaced. Even if Simpson sits for two years, bringing him in from the draft would only cause unnecessary drama and quarterback controversy that is not necessary.

There are a lot of possibilities, and this isn't disrespectful to Simpson, who could be a good quarterback in the NFL, but it won't fly with Eagles fans if they make that pick in the second round.
