The Philadelphia Eagles have finally given the media their first chance to speak with the coordinators ahead of their 2026 OTAs, which begin in less than a week.
First up is every Eagles fan's favorite coach, defensive coordinator Vic Fangio. Back at the beginning of the offseason, there were rumors that Fangio was close to retiring but decided to return for the 2026 season. Fangio was asked about his thoughts on retirement, but quickly shut it down, saying he "wasn't close" to retiring and even gave the media his timeline.
"I'm good for two years - at least."
Vic Fangio says he's got two years left in his career at minimum
Fangio enters his third season with the Eagles as their defensive coordinator, having performed well as one of the NFL's best assistant coaches and earning two straight nominations for Assistant Coach of the Year. Each year, he has had top 15 finishes in total defense and points in each of the last two seasons.
Last year, it was a rough start to the year with a lack of sacks being created by the edge rushers, but after Fangio was able to convince Eagles general manager Howie Roseman to trade for Jaelan Phillips, their defense finished the season strong. Philly was ranked 13th in total yards allowed and fifth in points.
Fangio will face new challenges heading into the 2026 season after losing Phillips, Nakobe Dean, and Reed Blankenship as starters. The Eagles did add Riq Woolen as their new CB2, which should give Fangio fewer headaches with Kelee Ringo and Adoree' Jackson not battling it out.
