Round 4, No. 118

Telvin Smith, ILB, Florida State

The Eagles need an inside linebacker to develop for when current inside linebacker Demeco Ryans’ contract expires. Eagles linebacker  Mychal Kendricks looks like a budding star and future Pro Bowler, but behind the two starters, there is little in the way of depth.  Smith, a 2014 NCAA National Champion, is a bit undersized for the position, but is highly instinctive and is built with the speed to play in today’s NFL.  While he isn’t great when blitzing, his coverage skills could make him an effective sub-package linebacker in obvious passing situations.

Alternatives: Marcus Roberson, CB, Florida or Josh Huff, WR, Oregon
