8. Minnesota Vikings
Derek Carr
Quarterback, Fresno State

Previously: Kony Ealy (Defensive End, Missouri)

Giorgos:

The Minnesota Vikings are reportedly interested in Johnny Manziel, but he is not on the board for their first-round pick. Derek Carr is not a dual threat quarterback, but he has good size, a very strong arm and good accuracy. He needs to improve as a decision maker under pressure (inside pass rush is his worst nightmare), but he has most of the traits you look for in a quarterback.

Dave:

The Minnesota Vikings re-signed quarterback Matt Cassel to a contract worth ten million dollars over two years and Christian Ponder clearly isn’t the answer, so the team opts to select their quarterback of the future with Fresno State’s Derek Carr. Cassel’s re-signing allows a security blanket should the Vikings feel Carr needs a year to develop, but in today’s league teams require a talented passer to have a chance and Carr is just that.
