Quarterback Christian Ponder

Wait…could it be? Another quarterback from the 2011 NFL Draft that failed to live up to their first round draft status? Yes, it is none other than former Vikings’ quarterback Christian Ponder.

Last year was basically a lost season for Ponder after Minnesota Vikings rookie quarterback Teddy Bridgewater took the over the starting job and never let go of it. Prior to last season though, Ponder showed some promise, especially when he started all 16 games for the Vikings in 2012. He finished that year with 2,935 passing yards, 18 passing touchdowns, 12 interceptions, 253 rushing yards and 2 rushing touchdowns. Not too shabby for the then second year quarterback.

But these past two seasons, Ponder hasn’t been so hot and that’s why he may just be the next reclamation project for Chip Kelly to take on. He’ll be just 27 years old heading into next season, coming off a season where he was benched in favor of a rookie, sound familiar?

Yes, Ponder was in the same position as Mark Sanchez was before he joined the Philadelphia Eagles in free agency. Will Ponder even see the field if he signs with the Eagles? Nobody knows, but it may just be a promising situation for both parties involved.

That’s all for the free agent bargains on the offensive side of the ball, look out for my article highlighting potential bargains on the defensive side of the ball next week. Thanks for reading!
